CYPRUS
Location - Eastern Mediterranean; Capital - Nicosia (Lefkosia); Population - 780,000; Currency - Euro MORE CYPRUS
From Athens I flew to Larnaka and made my way to Pafos on the south west of the island - April 2009.
In 2008 Cyprus adopted the Euro.
Cyprus' Euro coins are inscribed in both Greek and Turkish, though the currency of Northern Cyprus is the New Turkish Lira.
Pafos lies on the south west coast of Cyprus, a couple of hours drive from Larnaka
The harbour is the most attractive part of town, with several cafes and restaurants lining the seafront - Pafos

Pafos fort lies on the edge of the harbour
There's not much to see inside but the views from the top are worth the entrance fee - Pafos
The lower part of Pafos is known as Kato Pafos

Pafos is a former capital of Cyprus
There's a tourist strip a few minutes walk inland with loads of bars and restaurants - Pafos
Next to the harbour in Kato Pafos is the Pafos Archaeological Site - Pafos
The site is known for its Roman mosaics, dating back to the 3rd century AD - Pafos

The lighthouse lies within the site - Pafos

Head into the Troodos mountains for a spot of walking amongst the pine forest. This was taken when walking the Persephone trail - Troodos mountains
I was surprised to come across patches of snow in April. Troodos village is 1676 metres above sea level but daytime temperatures were easily into the teens centigrade - Troodos mountains
At the end of the Persephone trail are some great views, though it helps if it's not raining as in this photo - Troodos mountains
A radar beacon stands on top of Mount Olympus, Cyprus' highest mountain at 1952 metres - Troodos mountains
Platres is a few kilometres from the village of Troodos itself and has a wider variety of accommodation and places to eat
Kaledonia waterfalls lie on the Kaledonia trail, between Platres and Troodos - Troodos mountains

Kakopetria is a beautiful village in the Troodos mountains
