SINT MAARTEN (Netherlands)

Location - Caribbean; Capital - Philipsburg; Population - 36,000; Currency - Caribbean Guilder

A 25 minute flight from Antigua and I was on the Dutch side of the island of Saint Martin, called Sint Maarten.

UPDATE - On 10th October 2010 Sint Maarten (and Curaçao) became two independent states within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

When I visited back in 2001, Sint Maarten's currency was the Netherlands Antillean Guilder

Since independence the currency to be used will be the Caribbean Guilder, used by Curacao and Sint Maarten, though for now the Netherlands Antillean Guilder is still legal tender.
